Jupiter - an orbit of words

Jupiter Graydon/son of Mike Moskowitz and Susie Graydon
Big Picture HighSchool

Children

Men.
We are unique and bold and strange. Our species is fascinating indeed. Ours is of infinite and unknown potential. We may never believe in or even understand the fact that we have such grand potential. We can become so many things... We could be massive or tiny, reasonable or insane, brilliant or stupid, passive or corrupt
.
Men are amazing. We can be more forgiving than angels... or we can be more twisted and horrible than demons.

We are born as canvases for our actions to paint upon.

We die as works of art.

Jupiter participated in this year's Writers in the Schools Program - A Program of Seattle Arts and Lectures.
The above prose was written by Jupiter and selected for inclusion in the book shown above. Jupiter is one of those amazing people that one gets to meet and know in Renton. Quite the young man already. It doesn't take kids long to sprout wings and start flying on their own.

Wake Up in the Brightness is an anthology of students writings, both prose and poems, from the Puget Sound area. Ages second grade to last year high schoolers participate. Writers-in-residence worked with the kids ( a whopping 5,000) and from these submitted writings, the best and the finest were chosen and published. Two days ago there was an evening performance where the students were able to share their works in person (and launch themselves publicly). Follow the above link for further details and purchase ability. Or just wander into the Liberty Cafe where Mike has the book on view.

Congratulations, Jupiter. Well done.

Shannon Waters of Renton on Survivor Samoa

Shannon Waters, known to many about town, is back and has her lips sealed tight from her time on Survivor Samoa which airs this evening. Mary Clymer of Happy Delusions told me about Shannon just today. An ex-Marine who works in the Food Service made deliveries to Armondo's restaurant here in Renton and that is how Mary came to know her.

The photo above is from Facebook, as is the following bio that I copied for all of you:

CBS Bio
Shannon Waters is proud to be the first female Marine Sergeant to play the game of SURVIVOR. Although she has completed her military service and is now in the world of sales, Shannon will always remain true to her roots as a second generation Marine.

After serving her country for five years, Shannon went onto become a chef before changing gears to be a sales representative for a food service company. She credits her success to her industry knowledge and people skills. In her sales role, she feels connected to people soon after meeting them and is able to understand how to deliver what they genuinely need. This ability helped her achieve “Salesman of the Year” in 2008, along with the support of a great sales team.

On the weekends, Shannon splits her time between riding her Harley, which she’s affectionately named “Chunky”, enjoying the companionship of her dogs and hanging out with family. As number 8 out of 9 kids, she has plenty of family in close proximity to keep her busy.

Shannon is committed to preparing for the game. She has lost 4 pant sizes and 70 pounds but admits that she may have trouble staying under the radar. “I’m like this ball of energy just ready to explode, because I’m putting it out there and I think that rocks.”

Shannon is a native of Renton, Wash., where she currently resides with her canine kids Bruce and Kali.

At the local cafe

The local cafe is the place to see a slice of Renton life and indulge in cafe and conversation. Let a little of the world drift by, or in this case, come to you. Emily Duffy, fellow blogger and artist extraordinaire, was here in Renton after coming up to participate in the Fremont Fair last weekend. Fellow cafe comer, David, brought her by the local hang. More the luck for us - nice to meet ya there, Emily!

Bill Provin doesn't always say that he likes dogs - but dogs are always very fond of Bill. Here's Bill and Ginger on the cafe bench.

Ginger loves yarn, loves knitting, is a great craft lap dog. Here she is with her mommy, Shannon, happily guarding the safety of the knitting.

No, that is not a boy eating a canary - it is Perry Davis just moments after having his loose tooth finally yanked free by his Dad (mouth then stuffed with Mom's tissue to avoid any spillage of body fluids) . Proud moment of passage - ahhh, no front tooth to get in your tongue's way. We all remember what that feel like, right?
