What to do with the Sewing Blues
My baby is down - that is, my sewing machine needs to have some TLC and a tune-up. If you have every used a sewing machine on a semi-regular basis - you know that you can't live without one in the house that is is operating order. You might have the urge to create, or a repair emergency might need to be dealt with pronto. We sewers don't fare well when our tools are broken or gone.
Renton is so amazing that within our lovely little downtown - there are two places that you can go for sewing machine repair - or to purchase a new machine. Let me tell you - this is not common, and we are very lucky. Many of the creative or crafty inclined need to drive miles for what we take for granted on our old main drag here in Renton.

For those inclined to take up the craft of sewing, Renton Vocational College runs a few classes every quarter for those of varying stages of sewing prowess. Right now they are in the midst of Spring Classes, ( look here for what is on now), but come next quarter you could sign up. With the crunch on finances, there is more of an interest in the crafts of old - the art of sewing being one of them. Mary Collen, of Sewing Machine Service Co., Inc. is planning on a class that introduces the basics of sewing repairs in the near future. A class that puts the sewing needle in your hand so that you can hem your own pants, or replace that broken zipper without having to pay the tailor or dry cleaners to do it. Empowering new sewers - that is what it is all about. Join us, won't you? Here is a recent local article about what a lifetime of joy it can bring.
