It's happening again, and this time it's becoming a regular thang, party at the Liberty Cafe. It's entitled First Friday and it's all about fun. DJ Phil Anthony will be on hand to spin some tunes and give the sidewalk dancers something to groove on. Johnny Uysal, part owner of the cafe, will be playing congas. Food from Cafe Lure across the street, as well as beer, wine, coffee and, you.
There was a tremendous turnout for the gig last time. Granted, it was a Meet the Artist function at Happy Delusions as well as a Grand Opening Party for Liberty Cafe, but know that we know how fun it feels to be out and about in historic downtown Renton on a brilliant Friday night - why not more?! Check out the slide show here and you'll see what I'm talking about.
There is an artistic side to this function - New Artwork by Justine Carey will be hung for our appreciation and viewing.

Rockin' Renton - Block Party

If you weren't at S. Third and Main last night - you should have been, shame on you. It was a Rockin' Renton scene, to be sure, and the turnout was great right from the git go.
Happy Delusions "Meet the Artist" night colluded with Liberty Cafe's Grand Opening Celebration, and the outcome was more like a Block Party, and it was good.
Mary Clymer, Happy Delusions owner, has been trying to get the other businesses on both sides of her block on S. Third to commit to having such gatherings every Third Thursday of the month. Give people a destination out at night to our historic downtown corridor and add some flair to our local "scene".
Now the neighbor's of S.Third can see for themselves what a monthly Block Party would be like, maybe they will be more ready to commit. It was a success and I think would add a greatly needed dimension to out local evening options.
Co-Owners Mike Moscowitz and Johnny Uysal of the Liberty Cafe had a great set-up last night, and the crowds that showed up can bear that out. Scrumptious food from Cafe Lure and Armondos, wine, beer, coffee (a given!) plus DJ Phil Anthony manned the music and occasionally Johnny and friend Matthew played drums. There was even dancing on the pavement outside. When did that last happen in Downtown Renton, folks?

cup of coffee and a bit of shade
Liberty Cafe, located at the top of South Third Street- has got it's new awning up. Special thanks goes out to Randy Corman of our esteemed Renton City Council, who saw the posting in this here blog about cafe owners Mike and Johnny's pending plea with the city about said awning installation and helped expedite things. A bit of shade on a day like Saturday was entirely welcome.

SO, Happy Birthday, Mike! from all of us that have the pleasure of knowing you.

Please Sir, may I have a bit of awning, please?
There they are - three lovely examples of awnings on the top block of South Third Street, our main thoroughfare in the DTR (Downtown Renton, that is...). Aren't they a helpful? They let us know the name of the establishment when we glimpse them through our car windows. They stop the rain from all but drenching us at the door when we ready our umbrellas to make a mad dash for the safety of another dry spot.If you did let one of those handy dandy sunshades be installed, then we could all do a happy dance - like Frostie here does - when he hears good ole Ray Charles sing some good old fashioned tunes...
