What you can do in your neighborhood to have fun

Today, Saturday, some spunky North Rentonites took it upon themselves to have an "unofficial" Block Party on Wells Ave. N. between 3rd and 4th. Hosts Nate Thornton and the Giometti's, were keeping up on sports scores, handing out beer and grillin' the hotdogs. A large white tent was up on the front lawn, the chairs were in place and the potluck additions to the gathering kept coming - it was a good turnout.

You and your neighborhood could follow suit and add a little flavor to the summer in your 'hood. Here's some ABC's of throwing a little party together.

* Advertise free grilled meat - believe me, they will come
*Get other people to bring additional food so that you don't have to cook (which is FAR different from grilling - ask any man)
*Put up chairs (if you have a spare lazyboy or two, that could also be good)
*Invite everyone you can think of and make them promise to show
*Have beer on hand for those who do honor you with their presence
*Make it kid-friendly with balloons and maybe water guns (opps! I meant crayons)
*When you are there, yell at everyone to join you - see if they risk it

Looks like they had a great time even without their (Wells Ave. No.) letter carrier. Wouldn't you know I would be on vacation just when this is going on??? Maybe next year.
