By my count, you have exactly 12 more days to swim in downtown Renton. The Henry Moses Aquatic Center, which resides at Carco Park, will be open until September 7th. As we experience a secondary mini-heatwave this week, you may consider heading over and using the facilities. For residents of Renton, the entrance fee is $6 for adults, and depending upon the age of the child, up to the age of 4 is $2 and then after that $5 or $6.
Two sessions are held daily - Session I from 12:oo noon till 3:30 pm, Session II from 4:00 pm until 7:30pm. On Monday and Wednesdays there are Twilight Swims from 8 - 10pm. Remember to bring proof of Renton residency, as the price goes up substantially if you cannot.
Feel free to bring your own food and snacks, making it a picnic outing. There is grass to sit on when all the seats become filled - and filled they will be on these warm days, with most sessions selling out, so plan ahead and arrive early. There is also a very well stocked food stand with all sorts of fun treats in case you can't be bothered to do more than pack your swim trunks and a towel.
I am one of those pesky Rentonites that still doesn't understand why the pool doesn't stay open longer than June 20th to September 7th. Schoolbound lifeguards returning to their fall schedules aside, with rates for out-of-towners at $14 a pop and the evenings the facility is rented out for private functions and prepaid classes, I feel certain there must be a way to operate the pool with a cover in the cooler months and provide us all with swimming now that the Renton Technical College has closed it's pool doors. Please, pretty please please could we just make an attempt at such a plan dear City of Renton? Seniors need a place to workout, adults need a place to keep trim and work off some steam and there are just as many kids wanting to swim and learn to tread water.
