Cinnamon spice and everything nice

There are some of you that count on me to tell you the latest flavor of cupcake to be found around town. I do hate to let you down - so let's get right to the facts. It's cinnamon flavored and it's rockin'.

Salted cinnamon frosting? Yes, and worth every caloric bite! This may in fact be my favorite frosting that they have conspired to create.

Go in and have a smile from Brandie and a cupcake that will light your spirits up. You need it - did you see all that water falling down from the sky lately?

Funny thing I saw on Wells Street

This is the "funny" that I ran into the other day at the construction site of the new Savings and Loan building for First Savings Bank on Wells Ave. S. yesterday. When on my way to the a.m. coffee spot, I saw bright and frilly umbrellas and thought "photo op!". By the time I returned to the spot with camera in hand, the sign had been added. The foreman on the site was laughing and taking a shot with his camera as well when I returned, explaining that the guy was getting ragged so much that he made and hung the sign to deflect being the butt of some of the jokes coming his way.

Cancer gets a Pie in the Face!

Caught this on the fly, yesterday afternoon at our downtown Rainier Safeway - that is right folks, Pie in the Face day at Safeway!
For a mere donation of $5 to the Prostate Cancer Fund, you could "cream" a dedicated Safeway employee. Felt like I was at a good ole high school carnival. Fun and gooey and definitely hilarious.

Sorry for the poor camera quality here - I had to use my phone, and in a hurry! for the pies were starting to fly.
Losing someone to Cancer is no joke - but Safeway is great for soliciting funds in such a light hearted manner. Kudos to you, Safeway and your playfully willing employees!

Let me take you to the Market

Lovely fruits and veggie vendors are back in numbers - and each stall is a little different, and the picking is fresh and inspiring.



It was a very hot one today, so the Shave Ice, Hawaiian style, was very popular - like with Pam and Lee Chiccoine right here. Uh, Pam - can I get a bite of that?


Emily Garland, reporter for our local rag, The Renton Reporter, was showing her Renton love in her T-shirt and getting some fresh photos and fresh goodies.


The lovely vendor with the Russian baked delicacies is back this year - heaven help my hips!


Darrell Westover of Westover Farm down Maple Valley way is back again this year starting off with some fresh salad greens and a big smile.

The Harmony Kings from Federal Way were a lot of fun and well, just plain cute. They even had a couple of youngsters joining them, preparing the way for future singing generations.

Friends Jenny and Jerry both had armfuls of delicate sweet pea flowers and were taking a spin around the crowded Piazza. The turn out today looked good.

I love that you can also find plants for the garden at the Farmer's Market. From this viewpoint, the Piazza grass looks transformed into a colorful garden.

The opening ceremonies had our council prez Randy Corman (though I sheepishly just missed them!) and with him is Rich Zwicker, council member, Randy's fair wife, Kathy and also Don Bressler of the Renton Technical Institute (you know Don is the head honcho up there).

The neighboring children's school on Burnett lead the kids out for a turn around the market - and they all send you out a great big Hi and say - let's make it a date for next week!

Oh my, what a pretty bit of yarnbombing

I do love a bit of knitting ingenuity. Adds a bit of whimsy to the landscape, and tends to bring a smile to the face of anyone who happens upon it.

Liberty Cafe, located at the top of South Third Street- has got it's new awning up. Special thanks goes out to Randy Corman of our esteemed Renton City Council, who saw the posting in this here blog about cafe owners Mike and Johnny's pending plea with the city about said awning installation and helped expedite things. A bit of shade on a day like Saturday was entirely welcome.

Moving Sale!

Remember I told you that Bev and David of Antique Mall on Wells Street are going to over to a new location, just around the corner on S. Third Street? Well, the word is that they want to start fresh - completely different inventory. The SALE is on - and an auction will be held in June. Hurry/scurry - time for shopping and getting some deals!

Park particulars

Jones Park - dedicated over 80 years ago, still going strong. On the Cedar River, park benches ready for your "to go" lunch boxes, views in multitude. Hurry while it's hot. This park has a pretty impressive set of "particulars".

Remembering

Veteran's Memorial - downtown Renton, corner of Main Ave. South and South Third Street. Erected in 2003 - and a beautiful spot. The last couple of days prior to the weekend I saw workers finishing some updates on the walls in time for this holiday. And people visiting, like these ladies here, to find dear names of family and friends and to share in remembering the souls that our nation has lost.

American Legion Memorial to Veterans of All Wars - located in the pioneer cemetery, Mt Olivet. It was a bright, blue day and the cars were steadily pulling in to disgorge family members, young and old, flowers and flags in hand to pay their respects. It was heartwarming and it was touching.
